Merched Beca Bangor
11 November 2006
The North Wales Faslane 365 blockade team left Bangor this morning Monday 13 November, to join South & Mid-Wales at the Trident nuclear weapons base in Scotland. Dedicated to non-violent protest, they will picket and blockade the base until Wednesday, when another group will take up the challenge in this year-long protest. Even as they drive up to Faslane, a convoy is also heading north to Faslane from near Aldermaston, ready to service our very own weapons of mass destruction.
The message from North Wales:
• NO TRIDENT REPLACEMENT
ª NO NUCLEAR PROLIFERATION
• A NUCLEAR-FREE MIDDLE EAST, A NUCLEAR-FREE WORLD
• WELFARE NOT WARFARE
On Saturday, the group, many dressed as the Daughters of Rebecca, the C19th men and women who rebelled against social injustice in Wales, marched through Bangor accompanied by thunderous samba drumming.. [Pictures for the press will follow shortly]. This morning the group, of all ages and backgrounds, were given a warm send-off by the Bishop of Bangor, who deplored government policy as a horrendous waste of resources in a world living in intolerable poverty, and one of the biggest threats to saftey and prospects for peace.'
